Gordon Matheson


Gordon is Professor Emeritus at the Stanford University School of Medicine and a former tenured Professor of orthopaedics (sports medicine) at Stanford since being recruited there from Canada 25 years ago. At Stanford he practiced medicine, taught undergraduate courses and had an active research program with nearly 200 publications and more than 250 lectures in 16 countries. He founded the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, chaired the Board Governance Committee for the International Justice Mission, was an expert for the World Anti-Doping Agency, and headed the International Olympic Committee Disease Prevention Working Group. At Stanford, he served as a member of the Medical Senate, created the Division of Sports Medicine, and was a member of the Medical School Admissions Committee. In a past life Gordon was Team Physician for the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team, the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), and the Golden State Warriors (NBA). He is currently engaged in health care consulting with academic institutions, national health care companies, and medical device start-ups. Gordon has chaired the board for Worldplay since 2015.
